Dubai, UAE:  Thanks to Van Cleef & Arpels at Art Dubai, I had the opportunity to visit the l’Atelier where I got a better understanding of how gemstones are chosen, and how the actual pieces are made, based on the wax models. A lot of creativity went into making the High Jewelry collection – a creative explosion of great beauty.

As you will see in the video that I made, one is taken through four journeys that Jules Verne’s hero in ‘Round the World in 80 days’ makes. I would like to thank Ms. Caroline, the PR manager of Van Cleef & Arpels for showing me around this amazing set up.

‘Les Cariatides’ are monumental statutes that represent the four journeys that we, as visitors, are about to take.  The four journeys taken are as follows:

  • Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea
  • From the Earth to the Moon
  • Journey to the Centre of the Earth
  • Five Weeks in a Balloon

Van Cleef & Arpels also supported the START venture by offering a special edition jewelry box which is made of two lacquered butterfly clips. These clips were the result of the collaboration between Van Cleef & Arpels and Japanese master lacquerer Hakose San.
