Dubai, UAE: The trend of having an art exhibition at hotels is really catching on in Dubai! Right after the art exhibition launch at the Kambaa Art Café , I found my way to the Corp Executive Hotel Apartments in Barsha.  My fellow artisan Katerina Smoldyreva as well as artist Kate Toledo were showcasing some of their works in keeping with the theme Echoes of Old Persia.

Contemporary artists taking inspiration from ancient civilizations can result in some surprisingly beautiful work and this exhibition just filled me with more art-energy to go, create and just be amazing.

Katerina’s sculptures depicted village life in ceramic. The Echoes of Old Persia is inspired by Persian miniature paintings. I had always related to her mini sculptures but the work presented for this exhibition were a site to behold. She based her sculptures from poetry of Hafez, Rumi, Saadi.

Katerina started working as an artist at the age of 20, and today, she enjoys working with acrylic paints. It took her years to master her art, after working with various mediums, such as photography, painting, sculpture, tapestry, sewing, spinning, knitting and patchwork.

Some of her first works were created with plasticine and dry air clay. She says that she is still learning. Her favorite medium, at the moment, is ceramic clay. Figurative sculpture holds her fancy. And it holds mine too. Perhaps I should take some sculpture classes from her!
