Dubai, UAE: One might live in a country all one’s life and may still miss out on the country’s unique heritage and cultural aspects. All through my childhood I travelled to Dubai with my family from Abu Dhabi. While I knew where the Gold Souk was located, I had never heard of Ahmedia Art Gallery, till I met Archana RD.  It goes to show how one may miss out on the niceties of life that are just  around the corner.

It’s really easy to get to the Islamic Art Splendour exhibition currently taking place at Art Gallery Ahmedia till the end of August 2013. Just hop on the Dubai metro to the Al Ras Metro station. The gallery is bang opposite the station, which makes it all the more accessible. The art gallery was the ideal location for hosting this exhibition as is in the heart of, what I consider, the true and authentic Dubai heritage district. Ahmedia Guest House also has some beautiful rooms, should you wish to stay as a hotel guest, to explore the surrounding area (more on this experience in another blog post).

Several locally based artists from around the world came to make this exhibition a success. Each piece of work is spectacular in its own way. Mixed media, contemporary work, does appeal to me, being a mixed media artist myself. Here is a lowdown of the artwork by the participating artists.

Archana RD, who goes by the art name of B’lu – fellow writer, artist and a great believer in parallel education. You’ve already met her (in the first para!). She has been running a blog since 2007, would you believe?
